Cedar Rapids Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Stories
Cedar Rapids is a vibrant community with many opportunities for residents and visitors alike. As referenced in the Arts and Culture and the Downtown District sections, destruction among our vibrant attractions was devastating. As organizations struggle for funding in both a post flood regional economy and a national economy, these venues are finding support difficult to come by.
One of the most devastating losses to the tourism industry is the historic Paramount Theatre, which remains boarded up to this day. Although the City hopes to rebuild the historic theater, the economic impact of the hopefully short-term closure is felt by the industry.
Losing Local
Attractions
Local attractions were extensively affected, a number of the most historically and culturally significant structures were damaged. The attractions that were affected make our community
unique and memorable.
Tale of Two Cities
While the level of destruction was unimaginable; the rest of the city was untouched. The CVB must delicately balance the message that while we experienced the fifth largest natural disaster in US history based on damage to public facilities, we remain an appealing and enjoyable destination to visit.
